  • 1. Description

    The JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) is a special discounted pass available only to customers visiting Japan (with a short-term visa no longer than 90 days) and holding a non-Japanese passport.

    It allows unlimited trips on all JR East train lines in the JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) designated area.

    Start with a trip from Narita Airport or Haneda Airport to Tokyo, for example, and maybe hop aboard the Shinkansen or a limited express to Nagano or Niigata. In addition to JR East lines, the JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) allows rides on some non-JR trains in the Izu and Nikko areas.

    How to Exchange your E-ticket

    JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) has to be collected at one of exchange offices in East Japan within 3 months from the travel date in the PNR. Passenger will need to have a valid paper or e-ticket, a valid passport with the entry status of "Temporary Visitor".

    Making Seat Reservations

    Visit a JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) or Travel Service Center (View Plaza), located in most major JR East stations, and present your JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) to reserve a seat.

  • 2. Eligibility

    The JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) is available exclusively for visitors from abroad who enter Japan under the entry status of "Temporary Visitor". Both of the below two conditions must be met for purchase and use.

    • The pass user must have a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
      (日本国籍のお客様は使用できません。)
    • The pass user must enter Japan as a temporary visitor and have "Temporary Visitor" stamped in their passport.
    • The status of temporary visitor is established in Japanese immigration law and permits stays in the country of up to 90 days for purposes such as sightseeing. Visitors wanting to enter Japan for sightseeing will receive a stamp, saying "Temporary Visitor" in their passport by the immigration officer.

    Foreign nationals who are holders of non-Japanese passports (who have entered Japan with a "Temporary Visitor" visa to stay in Japan for no longer than 90 days) are eligible. Passports are required for confirmation purposes at the time of exchange or purchase.

  • 3. Eligibility for Saver

    There is no saver pass available for this pass.

  • 4. Discount

    Children between the ages of 6 to 11 pay a reduced rate.

  • 5. Validity

    Any 5 days out of the 14-day period from the date of issue (Flexible 5-day use) * The date of issue refers to the date of pick-up for passes purchased overseas and the date of purchase for passes purchased in Japan.

    The starting date of validity of the JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) cannot be changed.

    Valid in Ordinary Class. Unlimited use of the ordinary car reserved seating on limited express trains (Shinkansen included), express trains, and local trains on JR EAST lines, all Izu Kyūkō lines, all Tokyo Monorail lines, all Hokuetsu Express lines, and the Echigo TOKImeki Railway line (between "Naoetsu – Arai"), within the free usage area. In addition, there is also unlimited use of the ordinary car reserved seating on limited express trains such as the Tobu Direct Limited Express "Nikko", "SPACIA Nikko", "Kinugawa", "SPACIA Kinugawa" trains, and the local trains between Shimo-Imaichi and Tobu-nikko / Kinugawa-onsen stations on the Tobu Railway lines.

  • 6. Terms and Conditions

    One JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) may be purchased, per passenger, per stay in Japan.

    REFUNDS:
    Passenger may obtain a refund for the e-ticket at the office or travel agent that issued it within one year from the issue according to the regulation of each sales office. A JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) can be refunded at the nearest JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) exchange office in Japan only within the validity period and before the first date of use (in case of flexible pass before the first date of use), with a 10% handling fee deducted from the refund. No refund can be made for any reason after the first date of use. A JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) cannot be refunded or extended due to interruptions in train service, late departures or any other reasons.

    FEES AND CHARGES:
    A seat can be reserved without extra charge. Visit a JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area) Travel Service Center or JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) in advance and present the PASS.

    LOST TICKETS:
    E-ticket and PASSES cannot be reissued if it is lost or stolen.
