Backtracker Rail Pass: Discover New South Wales & beyond

The Backtracker Rail Pass provides a comfortable and economical means to discover New South Wales and beyond.

The Pass is valid for unlimited travel backwards and forwards on the XPT and Xplorer trains and connecting Coach services linking the capital cities of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and regional New South Wales.

Travel on Sydney CityRail services is only allowed in conjunction with a connecting Countrylink service. Travel is not available on Brisbane City Train, Melbourne Met or V-Line services.

Use of the Pass must begin within six months of the date of issue and be completed within the validity period from the first validity date. A travel 'day' is a period of 24 hours, or less, from the scheduled departure time of a service, eg an overnight trip 21h00-09h00 is regarded as one 'day'.

There are four Sydney CityRail vouchers included with the pass which can be exchanged for tickets:

Any Sydney City Station to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains
Katoomba to any Sydney City Station
Sydney CityRail DayTripper ticket
Any Sydney City Station to Bondi Beach day return

Reservations are compulsory and, as many of Countrylink's rail services are heavily patronized year round, arranging reservations as far in advance as practical will ensure maximum benefit from the Pass.

Economy seating on Countrylink services can be upgraded to first class seats or sleepers, subject to availability, and the upgraded value will be the amount of the difference in the fare between the economy ordinary fare and the upgraded fare plus any ancillary charges.

Please contact us to pre-book any journeys onto your pass in advance. If journeys are reserved at the same time as purchasing the pass, only fuel or upgrade surcharges will be levied. If you wish to pre-book sectors at a later date, a small per journey per person charge will then be made.

Passport numbers are required when booking all passes.
